Our History - Story of the decades

Foundation Day – 1950 | Celebrating Our Legacy

VEMC was established on April 1, 1950, by Shri Sharad Kumar Shah. Since its inception, the company has stood as a symbol of innovation, reliability, and engineering excellence.

1950–1970: Era of Building Relationships

The 1950s were a pivotal time for rural India, with acute power shortages. Diesel engine fire pump sets became essential for agricultural operations. Recognizing this need, VEMC collaborated with Kirloskar Brothers, expanding its offerings to include both diesel engines and pump sets.
In 1957, VEMC formed a strategic alliance with MICO (Motor Industries Company Ltd.), a German manufacturer of fuel injection systems, strengthening the product portfolio and market presence.

1971–1990: Gearing Up for Government Business

During the 1960s–1980s, VEMC ventured into government business with Kirloskar Brothers and partnered with Jyoti Engineering, Baroda for vertical turbine pump sets.
Key projects during this period included the Panchganga Water Supply Scheme, Kavate Ekal Water Supply Scheme, and Annapurna Water Supply Scheme, establishing a strong regional presence and cementing VEMC’s reputation in infrastructure and public utility services.

1991–2000: Revolution and New Ideas

The 1990s marked a shift to a buyer-centric approach, with VEMC educating sugarcane factories and other clients on the value of its products.
The after-sales service division was strengthened with training from Kirloskar Brothers, enhancing technical expertise and reinforcing VEMC as a trusted, complete solutions provider. Industrial sector operations were also expanded during this decade.

2000–2010: Resilience and Strategic Growth

This decade was marked by significant growth and strategic initiatives:

  • Our group identified the need & business potential in agriculture mechanization & we introduced the VIJAY Powertiller in 2000 under VEMC’s own brand, to cater to the growing agricultural mechanization need in India.
  • Leadership expansion with Satyen Vilaskumar Shah in 2004, promoting Kirloskar Brothers Ltd. and growing the industrial sector.
  • Recognition by Kirloskar Brothers Ltd in 2007 for outstanding contribution in the Western Zone.
  • Registration of VIJAY Powertiller with the Government of Maharashtra, enabling statewide distribution through government-subsidized programs.

2011–2020: Brand Building, Sustainability, and Innovation

VEMC expanded into agricultural machinery, partnering exclusively with USA-based MTD as sole distributors for power weeders in India., while a focus on sustainability and innovation reinforced VEMC’s leadership in both industrial and agricultural sectors.

In 2013, VEMC entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Southern Region Farm Machinery (Training & Testing Institute SRFMTTI) to strengthen its dealer network and provide training in the southern part of the country. This initiative helped enhance services to farmers and support the growing demand for agricultural mechanization.
